La-Z-Boy's sales are up 13 percent for the fiscal 2019 third quarter over the same period last year - largely thanks to recent acquisitions and core business growth, the company said.

La-Z-Boy Inc. has acquired Joybird, an e-commerce retailer and manufacturer of upholstered furniture.

Furniture giant La-Z-Boy saw $$20 million in fiscal fourth-quarter 2018 sales - a 1.8 percent increase over the same period last year. It also saw a 21.7 percent rise in net income, climbing to $34.4 million.

England Furniture will invest $31 million to expand its New Tazewell, Tennessee, residential furniture operation, creating 202 jobs.

Furniture giant La-Z-Boy Inc. reported a 15.16 percent decrease in net income for the first quarter of its 2018 fiscal year compared to last year’s first quarter.

La-Z-Boy's 1.2 million-square-foot Dayton, Tennessee facility is its only branded plant that makes furniture in all three upholstery categories.

"The consumer environment experienced weaker demand during the summer and early fall," says Kurt Darrow, CEO. An ERP computer management system installed a year ago is starting to pay off.

La-Z-Boy's revenue remained essentially unchanged from this quarter last year. Casegoods revenue rose 7 percent, and the new American Drew AD Modern casegoods line is expected to take off.

La-Z-Boy launched a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack for its power recliner. Batteries last about a week, and eliminate the need for a cord to run to the chair - giving more flexibility in room layout. The battery is the size of a hand, and can also be charged wirelessly.
