Ikea to open first store, manufacturing facility in Mexico

JALISCO, Mexico - Mexican media outlets are reporting that Swedish furniture giant Ikea will open its first store in the country.
 
Ikea has said very little about its plans in Mexico, but is apparently opening a store and manufacturing facility in Jalisco, a state in the western region of the country. Informador is reporting that a three-year-long negotiation process took place between the furniture giant and state authorities and the municipality of Guadalajara. 
 
There are no reported incentives.

Online furniture sales to reach $294 billion by 2022

According to Statista, a digital research firm, revenue from online sales of furniture and homewares is nearly $190 billion worldwide and is expected to grow 11.9 percent per year, reaching $294 billion by 2022.
 
The United States and China currently top the charts in online sales of furniture and homewares with $65.1 billion and $68.6 billion respectively.

IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad, passes away

SMALAND, SWEDEN -- Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA and Ikano,  passed away, at his home in Småland, Sweden, on January 27. Surrounded by his loved ones, he died at the age of 91, following a short illness. Ingvar Kamprad was born in 1926 in Småland in southern Sweden. At the early age of 17 he founded IKEA - the business that became his lifelong commitment. Ingvar’s driving force was the vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people.
