Landmark formaldehyde legislation urged by the Composite Panel Association (CPA) and others passed the US House of Representatives by voice vote on June 23, after being approved by the unanimous consent of the US Senate last week.

LEESBURG, VA – The Composite Panel Assn. is observing its 50th anniversary in 2010. The association was founded in 1960 as the National Particleboard Assn. In 1989, the NPA formed the PB-MDF Institute, opening up membership to suppliers and customers. The institute became the Composite Wood Council and ultimately merged with the broader association. In 1997, the Canadian Particleboard Assn. joined the group and the association was renamed the Composite Panel Assn.

Criteria for EPP certified particleboard and MDF panels includes composition of 100% recycled or recovered wood fiber and achievement of CARB Phase 1 formaldehyde emission levels.
