LEESBURG, Va. - The Composite Panel Association has elected members for its 2019 board. The new board was announced at the association's annual fall meeting and goes into effect on Jan. 1.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Environmental Protection Agency has amended the testing methods for the Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products to allow for small chamber testing. The update on the small chamber correlations was published in the Feb. 7 Federal Register and is effective immediately.

Warp is seldom a problem with composite panels when care is taken. To prevent warp in flat laminated panels: 1. Store panels and laminates in reasonably uniform, protected warehouse conditions, avoiding extremes in temperature and humidity 2. Balance the overlay sheets by type and weight, and ensure they are evenly conditioned. The ideal is 70F (±5) and 35% (±5) RH for one week. 3. Be sure the grain and machine direction of the paper run the same way on both sides of the substrate.

Fourteen composite panel facilities and one corporation as a whole were recognized for their safety achievements during the Composite Panel Association's annual spring meeting held last week in Tucson, Arizona.

Capacity for the North American composite panel industry is expected to increase 4.21 percent in 2016, driven by increased demand for engineered wood for use in cabinetry, furniture, flooring and other products.

BONITA SPRINGS, FL - Business is improving, albeit slowly, for the composite panel industry. The news set the tone for the Composite Panel Association's spring annual meeting, which saw its highest attendance since 2007. More than 280 people, representing 118 woodworking firms and related organizations, converged on Bonita Springs, Florida, May 31-June 3 for the event.

The Composite Panel Assn. (CPA) says it has submitted comments in response to the proposed Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the Biomass Crop Assistance Program.
