Video: Illegal Russian Timber into Chinese Flooring, Sold in US
16x9: Liquidating the Forests

"Liquidating the Forests," an investigative piece by Canadian televised news magazine 16x9, traces the flow of illegally harvested Russian white oak timber to flooring manufacturers in China and into the homes of North American consumers.

The video also singles out Lumber Liquidators as a major retailer of the illegal flooring, a claim which the company disputes.

Featured interviews by Sascha Von Bismarck of the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and Don Finkell, a U.S. flooring executive who details his experience with Chinese flooring suppliers, support 16x9's investigative findings. Kip Howlett, of the Hardwood Plywood & Veneer Association (HPVA) also provides examples in which some Chinese flooring and plywood have failed U.S. safety standards for formaldehyde emissions.
