This custom "Ladies' Dressing Room" designed by Sue Trainor, Closet Works, Elmhurst, Illinois, maximizes the challenges of working in small space. The project was a winner in the Closet laminate under 18 linear feet in the 2016 Top Shelf Closet Design Awards.
The designer was asked to help create a space for a ladies’ dressing room and to maximize the best storage for a room that was only 9 feet by 8 feet. The challenge was working in such a small space that had a large window and three door openings, old plaster walls and uneven floors. A traditional wardrobe was designed using tall doors to the ceiling, which gave the room an illusion of being bigger than it was. Also, a small dresser, housing 10 custom-width drawers, left room for a 360-degree “shoe spinner” in the corner to be added.
All winners for the 2016 Top Shelf Closet Design Awards were announced in March during at a special reception at the Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo in Pasadena, California. See more of the winners here.
