OLYMPIA, WA – The state of Washington has set plans to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater at the former Hardel Plywood plant site this spring.
According to the Olympian, the Washington Department of Ecology, pollutants targeted for cleanup at the include heavy oil, diesel by-products and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found at levels considered potentially harmful to exposed humans and aquatic life. The nearly 18-acre site operated logging and plywood businesses between 1924 and 1996, when the plywood plant was destroyed by a fire.
