PONTOTOC, Miss. – Washington Furniture, manufacturer of stationary and motion upholstery, has begun a 125,000 sq. ft. expansion onto its facility in Pontotoc, Mississippi.

The addition will accommodate the company’s existing motion production and warehousing and provide flexibility for additional lines to meet demand.

The expansion should be completed in late fall, and will bring the facility to 800,000 sq. ft.
Washington Furniture currently employs 325 people. With the expansion, the company expects new production and warehouse positions, but is unsure on how many.

After starting a business 40 years ago in a small shop behind his home, owner Gerald Washington is cautious when it comes to growth.

“We have been growing fast but are also in no hurry to rush anything,” said Washington. “We want to be prepared for growth but also prepared for the other way it could go.”

Strong performance at the recent High Point Market has contributed to the company's growth said Washington.pand.
