DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES --A much-anticipated green building rating system will be introduced as a pilot in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) later this year, according to gulfnews.com. The system will be modeled on the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating, which provides a benchmark to measure the environmental sustainability of a building's design, construction and operation.

The Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC), a non-profit organization that promotes environmental sustainability in the UAE, will adapt the rating system to suit the UAE’s climatic conditions and real estate market.
