BELL GARDENS, Calif. - High-end custom furniture maker Hammer Fine Furniture has acquired California-based Italmond Furniture - also a high-end maker. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Hammer president Scott Prince said Italmond's high-end line of barstools, dining chairs and accent chairs complements the product line of Hammer Fine Furniture. Hammer produces a medium-priced line that includes casegoods, upholstery, and seating, all of which are exclusively made in the United States.

Italmond's frames are handmade, custom finished, and upholstered in the company's Los Angeles factory. Prince said Italmond's appeal lies in its ability to customize products for both contract customers and high-end designers. He added that each company will retain its unique product line and design niches, and will keep its respective sales force and website.

The lines will be distinct because they appeal to different markets, Prince said.

However, the purchase will allow the two companies to tap into each other's strengths. He said he plans to invest heavily in the Italmond brand.

The cross marketing and merchandising will open both companies up to new opportunities, Prince said. The two companies will share office space in their Los Angeles headquarters.

Prince will be director of sales until a replacement is found.
