Steelcase Receives Environmental Certification

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Steelcase Inc. received a silver McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry Cradle-to-Cradle Certification for the Answer Workstation at the annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo presented by the U.S. Green Building Council. The certification is the first in the contract furniture industry, and is one of five Steelcase offerings featured at the show. The company received an upgrade to gold for specific models of the “Think” chair, as well as a silver certification for the “Move” chair. PolyVision, a Steelcase company, introduced the world’s first silver Cradle-to-Cradle certified whiteboards.

The certification places great emphasis on the human and ecological health impacts of a material’s components, and focuses on the ability to recycle or safely compost that material. In addition to the stringent material criteria, companies seeking certification are required to meet strict criteria for social fairness, and corporate practices and ethics. Read more.
