Spanish firm develops biodegradable golf tee

MADRID, SPAIN -- The one inherent advantage of wood golf tees that they are good for the environment is being challenged by a bioplastic that is biodegradable.

BioTee, developed by Biotech Solutions, was introduced in Spain last summer; an office has since opened in Ft. Myers, FL. The company said the tees are made from a "living organism" that 100 percent biodegradable due to the activity of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi and algae.

BioTee said that while a regular plastic tee needs 450 years to be disintegrated, BioTee disappears in less than a year.
