SWEDEN - Södra Wood will open a U.S. subsidiary, most likely in Florida,  said Håkan Svensson, president of the business area. The lumber conglomerate will also open a U.S. sales office to help boost sales of its sawn timber.

"The opening of a sales office by Södra Wood in the U.S. will facilitate more business since we will expand our market presence and generate more contacts," Svensson said.

The company will be wholly owned by Södra Skogsägarna ekonomisk förening and will consist of a Swedish Board of Directors and a president who will be responsible for operations, the company reported.

In related news, Södra will also open a sales office in Shanghai, China, to boost sales in the region.

Södra Wood has an annual revenue of approximately $5.5 billion (SEK), and about 1,500 employees. Based in Sweden, the group produces sawn and planed timber as well as interior fittings in wood, such as mouldings, panelling, flooring and glued-joint boards.
