MOSCOW -- Russia enacted export bans on certain products such as wood and forestry products as a reaction to Western sanctions leveled against them for invading Ukraine.

The ban will reportedly stay in place until the end of 2022.

In all, 200 products are covered. In addition to wood and timber, telecom, medical, vehicle and electrical products were also covered.

WoodworkingNetwork.com has reported on the potential impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. For instance, TimberCheck estimates that about 10 percent of hardwood plywood exported to the U.S. is used in finished goods such as kitchen cabinets, recreational vehicles, mobile homes, flooring, and furniture. That plywood might be cut off due to the ban.

In addition, Russia is the world's largest exporter of timber, primarily softwoods, selling some $12 to $14 billion in goods in 2021 and most of the wood is being sold directly or indirectly to the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan and China.
