MANILA - Philippine furniture manufacturers are concerned that they will experience a decline in exports to the United States because of the new formaldehyde emissions standard that takes effect Jan. 1 in California.
According to Business World Online, Philippine furniture makers are struggling to find certified materials that will comply with the rule adopted by the California Air Resource Board.
Ruby Salutan, executive director of the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation Inc., told Business World, “Not a single member of the Philippine Wood Producers Assn. makes wood within the required range of formaldehyde emissions … members are sourcing imported wood from accredited sources.”
