SEATTLE, WA — New Zealand timber exports are on schedule to hit a record high level, with almost one-third of the logs being processed at Chinese sawmills, according to a recent report by Wood Resource Quarterly.
According to the report, total shipments in the first eight months were 25 percent higher than the same period last year, and 54 percent higher by value, with New Zealand log exports are expected to reach a record high. According to Wood Resources International, predictions are for the harvest level in New Zealand to double to an annual level of 55 million m3 by 2024, though 35 to 45 million m3 annually is a more realistic figure."Even this lower harvest outlook alternative would increase available log supply from the current levels by over 50 percent," the agency said.
