Merillat assists in fraud investigation of waste hauler
RAPID CITY, SD – Dumpster records kept at the former Merillat particleboard plant are key evidence against a waste hauler charged with allegedly defrauding the city of Rapid City of more than $500,000 over a seven-year period.

According to the Rapid City Journal, police suspected Fish Garbage Services of falsifying the contents of roll-off trucks and dumpsters hauled to the Rapid City landfill. Grand theft allegations against Fish are likely to be considered by a grand jury, the paper said in quoting local police authorities.

According to the paper, Fish employees allegedly claimed dumping materials they claimed to be sawdust from Merillat’s plant. Sawdust, considered an “alternative cover,” qualifies for a lower dumping fee.
