TRENTON, N.J. - Adam Martignetti, a former salesman for New Jersey-based Bayway Lumber, admitted to defrauding customers and lying to a grand jury, and has been sentenced to a year in prison.

 

Martignetti, 44, admitted to giving away iPads, laptops, and patio furniture to employees of companies that were customers of his company Bayway Lumber from 2011 to 2013. Martignetti then added the costs of these items in the company's bill - overbilling them, according to authorities.

 

Martignetti's boss, Robert Datillo, part owner of Bayway, previously pleaded guilty for orchestrating the scheme. Datillo was sentenced to 48 months in prison and ordered to pay over $700,000 in restitution.

 

Amtrak, New York's Con Edison, and the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey were a few of the clients victimized by the scheme.
