BERKLEY, Mich. - 21-year-old former Durst Lumber employee Andrew Maurer faces up to 15 years in prison for allegedly stealing more than $75,000 from the lumber business he worked at.

Durst Lumber & Ace Hardware reported the matter to police in February after an employee noticed several inconsistencies on credit card returns. Those returns, which totaled more than $2,300, were linked to Maurer's ACE Rewards account.

An investigation began, and police soon determined this wasn't the first such case. Embezzlement allegedly began in July 2017 and continued up until February of this year. Police say he stole more than $14,500 in 2017, more than $31,500 in 2018, $11,765 in 2019, and more than $18,400 in just the first month and a half of 2020.

Maurer allegedly admitted all embezzlement to police, detailing how he was able to do it.
