OMAHA, NE — Lozier Corp., a national manufacturer of store fixtures, on Jan. 23 announced a sharp decline in orders from retailers has prompted the company to cut 43 Omaha production workers, reduce remaining workers' hours from 40 to 32 per week and cut some management jobs, according to the Omaha World-Herald. The layoffs followed terms of the workers’ union contact, and amounted to 8.8% of the production work force. The company also plans to close an 85-employee plant in Cedar City, UT, later this year and is reviewing its production needs in Omaha and in plants in Pennsylvania, Missouri and Alabama.

“We will continue to work hard to try to avoid making further reductions,” said Lozier President Sheri Andrews. “Unfortunately, due to the high volatility in the economy and retail and store fixture markets, we can’t make any guarantees.”
