'Joey's Afterglow' provides children toys and Christmas joy

In 2018, just shy of Joey Ventimiglia's 8th birthday, he "earned his angel wings" passing away from a rare pediatric brain cancer, known as DIPG, and since then his family has conducted Joey's Afterglow toy drive.

This year, according to Joe Ventimiglia, father of Joey and vice president of Sierra Products Chicago, the drive collected two truckloads of toys. One truck was delivered to a local Chicago television station's toy drive, and a second truck is scheduled to be delivered to the Asheville, North Carolina, to help those still recovering from flooding and the hurricane.

"Joey’s Afterglow is burning brightly today and he is smiling from heaven," said Ventimiglia. [We are praying] that this is helping a lot of children have a wonderful Christmas."

Over the years, he said that they have collected more than 12 truckloads of toys.

The toys were distributed to:

  • Luries Childrens Hospital  (Chicago)
  • Off the Street Club (Chicago)
  • Christmas in the Wards (Chicago)
  • Agape Center (Chicago)
  • Two trucks made it to children on the East Side of Ukraine
