Indiana Furniture to relocate, cease production at 116-year-old plant

JASPER, Ind. - Indiana Furniture, one of the largest contract furniture makers in the U.S. (number 151 on the FDMC 300), is relocating to an existing nearby facility to streamline operations and boost capacity.

The company will invest $17 million to expand the building by 165,000 feet.

Growth is strong, and the current building can't keep up. The company will cease operations at the building, where it has been operating out of for 116 years.

“With the growth in our seating, and the size of our seating units, this building can’t really accommodate the manufacturing of those products,” said CEO Max Verkamp.

Furniture is manufactured over multiple floors at the current building, forcing lots of unnecessary movement via elevator. This is inefficient and wastes time, says Verkamp.

The move should be fully completed by 2023.

Headquartered in Jasper, Indiana, Indiana Furniture is among the nation's largest contract furniture manufacturers, producing desks, workstations, seating, tables, and workplace dividers for corporate, commercial, education, and government agencies.
