JASPER, Ind. - Indiana Furniture, one of the largest contract furniture makers in the U.S. (number 151 on the FDMC 300), will get a nine-year tax abatement to assist in the company's ongoing relocation and expansion.

Indiana Furniture announced in May that it would invest $17 million to expand into a new nearby production facility. 

The company will cease operations at the current building, where it has been operating out of for 116 years.

“With the growth in our seating, and the size of our seating units, this (current) building can’t really accommodate the manufacturing of those products,” said CEO Max Verkamp.

Furniture is manufactured over multiple floors at the current building, forcing lots of unnecessary movement via elevator. This is inefficient and wastes time, says Verkamp.

Indiana will hire around 20 additional employees to work at the new plant.

Construction on the facility should complete by 2023.
