Herman Miller Video Contest Studies Learning Environments

ZEELAND, MI - Office furniture maker Herman Miller Inc. is asking college students to answer the question, "Why does your campus matter?" in its fifth annual Student Video Contest.

The Herman Miller Student Video contest, open to full-time students attending two- or four-year in U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities, to show why attending a bricks and mortar educational institution is relevant in the world of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other online educational opportunities in a video of up to 3 minutes. In addition, entrants are encouraged to "make a case for space" in creatively demonstrate how they use all forms of digital communications in their individual and collaborative studies. 

“With MOOCs and online learning, one could assume the role of space in education is diminishing,” said Jeff Vredevoogd, director of Herman Miller Education. “Yet students continue to gravitate toward collaborative learning experiences that only occur on campus. This contest encourages students to highlight how the physical learning environment is helping them thrive and pursue their lifelong learning journeys.”

A judging panel made of Herman Miller representatives will select three finalists. The finalists will be pitted in a public vote to decide the final ranking for the top three submissions. The first place winner will be awarded $2,500, second place $1,500, and third place $1,000. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. EST March 21, 2014. (View contest rules and guidelines.)
