The Häfele America Co. executive team and company shareholders break ground on a $13 million Archdale, NC warehouse expansion project which will add 94,200 additional sq. ft. and a rooftop solar array to the facility.

Archdale, North Carolina – Häfele America Co. broke ground April 4 on a massive $13 million expansion to its warehouse facility here. Located in a large field between the street and the outer wall of the current Häfele America Co. Archdale, North Carolina warehouse, the expansion will add 94,200 sq. ft. of High-Rise Distribution Center space. That will bring the facility to 221,200 sq. ft. in total, increasing overall storage capacity by 60 percent.

“The expansion of our North Carolina warehouse is an investment in the future success of Häfele, but also that of our customers,” said Paul K. Smith, President of Häfele America Co. “Through this project we’ll be able to serve all of our customers in a multitude of better, more efficient ways – as well as reducing the company’s carbon footprint by adding solar power to our campus.”

The expanded facility will include a 501 kW solar system consisting of more than 1,100 panels. That investment alone is expected to provide approximately 75% of the total power use for the facility.

“The equipment and processes employed within our Archdale facility are about to receive a monumental upgrade,” said Jed Kilpatrick, Director of Operations for Häfele America Co. “In addition to increased storage capacity, we’ll be adding the latest automated conveyor lines and product pick systems which will improve responsiveness, efficiency and order accuracy."

A number of Piedmont Triad-area and North Carolina based contractors are involved in the project including architectural plans developed by Winston-Salem’s West & Stem Architects, PLLC, site construction by Landmark Builders, also of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and solar power implementation by Yes Solar Solutions of Cary, North Carolina.

Total investment in facility upgrades and expansion for the project is $13 million. Construction is anticipated to be complete by fall 2022.
