TAIPEI – The Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry said Taiwan exported US$5.173 billion worth of machinery in the first four months of this year, representing a 10.8% year-on-year growth, according to CENS.com.
Machine tools showed the most, growing 23.3% to $1.199 billion compared to the prior year period. In dollar value, special-purpose machinery ranked second (up 16.1%), followed by plastics and rubber machinery (up 10.4%), valves and parts (up 4%), and pumps, compressors and fans (up 11.2%). Woodworking machinery was ranked eighth, with $209.2 million worth of exports, which was up 7.7% from the same period last year.
Mainland China and Hong Kong were the largest export outlet, absorbing $1.449 billion worth of Taiwan-made machinery in the first four months of this year, up 0.7% and accounting for 28% of the total exports. The United States came second with $761.23 million, up 2.4% and commanding 14.7%. Japan was third with $284.31 million, down 1.2% and accounting for 5.5%.
