MiEN Co., an education- furniture manufacturer has acquired the former American Seating Co. factory in Grand Rapids.

According to Crain’s Grand Rapids Business, an affiliate of MiEN Co. closed Monday, Jan. 15, on the purchase of the three parcels of land on approximately 17 acres of property from American Seating for an undisclosed amount.

The 240,000-square-foot industrial on the site is reportedly to be used for to expand its logistics, assembly and warehousing operation. MiEN has already outgrown the approximately 150,000 square foot of industrial space the company recently renovated at the former Baker Furniture in Grand Rapids.

Remco Bergsma, founder, president and CEO of the 12-year-old company old the publication that “We can use 250,000 square feet of warehousing, and obviously right now, it’s not easy finding (that) in the city. Everything grew a little faster than we thought with our company.”
