DHA: Canada rescinds surtax on U.S plywood and veneer

The Decorative Hardwoods Association is reporting that the Canadian government is rescinding tariffs on certain U.S. plywoods and veneers.

"On April 16," the DHA reported, "Canada issued a remission order on some tariffs imposed on U.S. goods. The remission order, which means that importers will not have to pay those tariffs, is for plywood and veneer inputs imported from the U.S. that are used in the manufacture or processing of plywood and other products in Canada until October 16, 2025."

Canada had imposed a 25% surtax on certain goods imported from the United States, including plywood, veneers, some softwood lumber and other wood products that went into effect March 4, 2025. The surtax was in retaliation for U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Some Canadian manufacturers expressed concerns about the impact of these counter-tariffs on their businesses.
