MONROVIA, Calif. – Decore-ative Specialties Inc. is permanently closing its Elk Grove, California, manufacturing operation. The large cabinetry components manufacturer said the closure, which is scheduled for the end of August 2020, is prompted by the rising costs of operations and the economic conditions created by COVID-19.

In addition to the 90,000-square-foot Elk Grove location, the company operates manufacturing facilities in Irwindale, California, and Monroe, North Carolina.

“Through our lean journey, we’ve experienced significant improvements in manufacturing while decreasing the overall footprint needed to satisfy our customers,” said Jack Lansford, Jr., president. “As a result, we’ve decided to consolidate operations and support our northern California and western customers from our two manufacturing locations in Irwindale, California.”

Lansford noted, “the rising costs of maintaining multiple facilities in California and the COVID-19 outbreak” played significant roles in the decision. “However, we will continue delivering quality products on our trucks, accurate, complete, and on-time, to our northern California customers.”

“As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision due to the potential impact on our employees, suppliers, and the Elk Grove community,” Lansford added. “Therefore, we are working diligently to redeploy as many employees as possible to other opportunities throughout the company.”

Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Monrovia, California, Decore-ative Specialties manufactures custom cabinet components to the kitchen, bath, closet, garage, office, remodeling, refacing, healthcare, and multi-family housing industries. Product offering includes RTA cabinets, doors, drawer fronts, drawer boxes, mouldings, accessories, finishing, and hardware. Products are manufactured in wood, plywood, 3D laminate, and melamine.

Decore-ative Specialties won a WMIA Wooden Globe Award for Innovator of the Year in 2016 for its work with Bacci in developing a CNC sander shaper machine capable of outputting 500 doors per day, for batch one production. The company is ranked at 68 on the current FDMC 300 list of top North American wood products producers.
