AMHERST, Va. - Hermle North America, a Virginia-based clock manufacturer in business since 1977, will expand its operations into furniture production.

The company will expand with a new line: 1922 Commercial Furniture Company. 1922 will serve as a subgroup - building custom hospitality furniture. Products will include everything from hotel casegoods to dormitory desks, according to the 1922 website.

The expansion also will include a multitude of improvements to Hermle's 90,000-square-foot Amherst factory, including significant updates and changes to the technology and manufacturing processes, a focus on social and environmental sustainability, and the addition of seven new employees.

More hiring will begin in 2019.

Hermle makes cuckoo clocks, tellurium clocks, mantle clocks, wall clocks, and grandfather clocks.
