MONTREAL - Elfe Juvenile Products, which imported Simplicity products until two years ago, has stopped short of issuing a recall for the same model of cribs that have been labeled a suffocation hazard by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
According to Canwest News Service, Elfe posted a “voluntary safety advisory” on its Web site noting that consumes “should make sure the drop side is securely attached to the tracks in all four corners.
The CPSC recently recalled approximately 400,000 Simplicity drop-side cribs and cited the suffocation death of an 8-month-old Texas child.
An estimated 4,500 of the Simplicity cribs were sold in Canada between January 2005 and July 2009.
According to Canwest, Health Canada, the nation’s counterpart to the CPSC, “must work with the Canadian manufacturer or distributor on a voluntary recall.
