RESTON, VA — According to the monthly Trend of Business Survey from the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Assn. (KCMA), participating cabinet manufacturers reported sales totaling $4.8 billion for 2009, down 28.3% compared to total sales for 2008. Stock sales were down 24.1%; semi-custom sales were down 30.2%; and custom sales were down 37.2%.
December 2009 monthly sales were down 9.8% compared to December 2008. Stock sales were down 16%; custom sales were down 25.8%; while semi-custom reported a slight 0.5% increase compared to December 2008, due to participants attributing more sales in the semi-custom sector at the detriment of stock and custom sales, thus reflecting a wider than normal variance between the sectors.
The long tailspin in sales seems to have subsided as sales reported each month reflected a progression of increasing sales volume with December being the best month since November 2007.
