OTTAWA, Ontario – The Bluewater Wood Alliance (BWA), in partnership with Industrial Safety Trainers, has scheduled a full-day online workshop on health and safety for wood product manufacturers. The event is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday, Sept. 1.

BWA is billing the workshop as a “doubleheader” with the morning session devoted to human resource policies and procedures and the afternoon focused on woodworking equipment safety training.

The human resources presentation will provide participants with templates of HR policies and procedures to help establish a program or enhance one already in place. Some of the topics that will be covered include overtime, cell phone policy, company benefits and termination policy.

Following a half-hour lunch break, the “Safety Talks for a Woodworking Shop” will examine how to craft a safety talk to train workers. The workshop will review sample safety talks to highlight critical points and discuss different ways to deliver a safety talk. Participants will also have access to a series of downloadable safety talks that cover most tools and equipment used in woodworking shops.

Registration is $185 plus HST for BWA members and $505 plus HST for non-members.

Learn more and register.

The BWA is a cluster organization comprised of wood products companies and associated institutions operating in southwestern Ontario.
