BARRE, Vt.  – A Vermont-based lumber company will stay in its current owner's hands because of the COVID-19 crisis.

R.K. Miles purchased Allen Lumber three months ago. R.K. president Joe Miles said the sale's closing has been postponed because of restrictions on gatherings, which prevent necessary staff training and system upgrades from taking place, reported the Barre Montpelier Times Argus.

“We were truly enjoying working with the Allen staff as we prepared for the spring transition,” Miles said in a statement. “It was disappointing to have to delay the closing but given the circumstances we are making these adjustments for the safety of our combined staff."

The state's social distancing rules are in effect until the end of November, at the earliest.

Allen Lumber president told the Times Argus that the sale will resume in the fall.

R.K. Miles runs six locations throughout Vermont and Massachusetts.
