TEANECK, N.J. - Manuel "Mendy" Goldring was arrested Feb. 18, accused of embezzling $1.2 million from a Bergen County, New Jersey-based furniture manufacturer.

The 27-year-old accountant from Teaneck, New Jersey, has been charged with money laundering, computer-related crimes, theft by deception, impersonation and false swearing, according to a statement by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Chief Glenn M. O’Reilly.

Goldring reportedly worked as comptroller at Academia Furniture Industries, a Wood-Ridge, New Jersey-based manufacturer of educational furniture, from October 2015 to February 2020.

According to authorities, on Oct. 19, 2020, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit received information from Goldring's former employer regarding the unauthorized taking of funds from the company. The subsequent investigation revealed that, acting in his capacity as a comptroller for the furniture company, Goldring embezzled approximately $1.2 million dollars from the business through the theft of checks, PayPal transfers and Amazon purchases.

Goldring faces one count of money laundering, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 21-25, a 1st-degree crime; one count of computer-related crimes, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-25(c), a 1st-degree crime; one count of theft by deception, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4(a), a 2nd-degree crime; one count of impersonation, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-17(a), a 3rd-degree crime; and one count of false swearing, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:28-2(a), a 4th-degree crime. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
