WERC to Host Two-Day Workshop Aimed at Small-Scale Lumber Producers

PRINCETON, WV --The Wood Education Resource Center (WERC) in Princeton, WV is hosting a two-day workshop aimed at small scale lumber producers and users Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, 2011, entitled “Profitably Drying Small Quantities of Lumber”.  The workshop is aimed at portable sawmill owners, specialty lumber producers, cabinet and woodworking shops that wish to learn how to effectively dry their lumber.

The majority of the course will be taught by Joe Denig, co-author of Drying Hardwood Lumber. Participants will receive hands on experience operating WERC's commercial-type dry kiln using samples to monitor the drying and conditioning processes. Subjects that will be covered include drying yard practices, kiln operation, solar kilns, dehumidification kilns, vacuum kilns, small conventional kilns, wood moisture relationships and drying schedules.
