Brooklyn, NY – After a preview at BKLYN DESIGNS 2010, Think Fabricate is bringing its first line of furnishings to market. Recently co-founded by Susan Doban and Jason Gorsline, Think Fabricate is a multidisciplinary design studio that blends craftsmanship and meticulous detailing with sustainable materials. “Not Your Mother’s…!” is a debut collection that features the company’s distinctive mix of historical motifs and modern forms. Coordinating elements in the collection include a contemporary china cabinet, an artful chest of drawers, an unconventional mirror and the “world’s most beautiful radiator cover.” Each piece is handcrafted in the company’s East Williamsburg, Brooklyn studio and can be customized, based on client specifications.

As a sister company to Doban Architecture, Think Fabricate has a strong background designing for residential and commercial settings, focusing on function, detail, and character in all of its work. According to company co-founder, Susan Doban, “ With the design and fabrication capabilities of Think Fabricate, we are able to provide a broader range of design solutions and create unique furnishings that incorporate meaningful visual motifs with modern forms and function.” Gorsline adds, “We strive to balance material composition, texture and color in all of our projects and products.”

“Not Your Mother’s…!” is the first collection of unique furnishings from Think Fabricate that is at home in Victorian brownstones and modern day apartments alike. The entire line is made from carefully selected materials such as FSC-rated MDF, bamboo plywood, remnant or recycled marble and painted ash veneer. Custom graphic patterns, moldings, finishes, sizes and colors are available throughout the full range.

…Radiator Cover features a playful arrangement of decorative perforations taken from historical motifs on 19th century transferware platters. Dimensions: 36H x 36W x 18D; also standard 42H

…China Cabinet is wall-mounted with a dramatic angled frame. The unique molding evolved from the character of a Brooklyn brownstone and is offset with a bright accent color. Dimensions: 30H x 36W x 18D; also standard 42H

…Chest of Drawers is a three-drawer unit that sits on a beautifully detailed bamboo plywood base. It also features a colorful orchid detail on the bottom drawer. Dimensions: 36H x 36W x 18D; also standard 42H

…Mirror features an abstraction of the Think Fabricate logo with two overlapping heads etched in the center, creating an interesting “frame within a frame” effect. The molding matches the motifs used on other pieces in the series and captures the scale and form of traditional moldings. Dimensions: 42H x 36W x 18D

Think Fabricate was co-founded by Susan Doban and Jason Gorsline in November 2009 as a multidisciplinary design studio affiliated with Doban Architecture. Gorsline holds a Bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia and is a former partner of A&G Designs, where he was design director. Doban is an award winning architect and founder of Doban Architecture. Think Fabricate’s primary goal is to design solutions for better living, learning and community. All of the company’s collections are designed and manufactured in Brooklyn, using sustainable materials, natural wood, applied color and historical motifs juxtaposed with modern forms. About Doban Architecture
Susan Doban leads Doban Architecture, an award winning 12-person architectural practice in downtown Brooklyn. Doban has 25 years of experience in the design and management of architectural, planning, and furnishing projects, including numerous educational, commercial, residential, and economic development projects in the region. Under her leadership, the firm has completed more than 60 capital improvements for New York City School Construction Authority. Before founding Susan Doban Architect, PC, in 1996, Doban was an associate at Fox & Fowle Architects. She has her M.Arch from Columbia University and her BA from Harvard. She is an active VP on the Board of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of a Kinne Travelling Fellowship for study of American Urban Waterfronts. Highlights of Doban Architecture’s awards include: the Preservation League of NY State 2008 Historic Preservation Award; the Municipal Art Society’s Masterwork Award; two Building Brooklyn Awards; a US EPA Award for Energy Efficiency; and the McGraw-Hill NY Construction Best of 2007 Award.
