WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The Piedmont Lumber & Mill Company, Inc. of Walnut Creek, California, sustained a major fire which destroyed its retail facility on North Main Street in Walnut Creek, last Saturday, March 13, 2010.
The owners and management staff expressed its sorrow and concern for impacts to employees, customers, vendors and neighbors. The company also praised the efforts of the first responders who arrived from many places around the East Bay to try to contain the fire and protect public safety.
The company’s leadership is profoundly grateful that no one was injured due to the event, and that ancillary damage was kept to a minimum.
On March 16, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District completed its initial investigation at the site, and returned control of the premises to the company. The district also issued a statement on March 17 that said “The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No exact determination has yet been determined and now a more detailed follow up investigation will begin…”
Company officials continue to meet with parties, including its lender, to understand what needs to be done going forward.
The Piedmont Lumber and Mill Company, Inc. has been serving the needs of builders and homeowners since 1934. Beginning with a retail site in Oakland, Piedmont has built several other facilities to provide products and services for agriculture, landscaping and home decor.
