IWPA Convention to Feature the Honorable David Emerson

Alexandria, VA - The International Wood Products Association is proud to announce that the keynote speaker for IWPA's 57th Annual Convention in Vancouver, Canada will be the Honorable David Emerson, former member of the Canadian Parliament.

Mr. Emerson has had a long and distinguished public service career. He began his time in the Parliament of Canada in 2004 and was named the Minister of Industry shortly thereafter. From there he rose to become the Minister of International Trade and was instrumental in planning both the 2010 Winter Olympics and the Asia Pacific Gateway Initiative. In 2008 he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to his public service career, Mr Emerson also has vast private sector experience. He has served as President and CEO of Vancouver International Airport Authority, as well as President and CEO of Canfor Corporation, one of the world’s largest producers of sustainable wood. His business acumen combined with his experience in government makes him the perfect addition to the IWPA Convention lineup of speakers.

Warren Spitz, President of IWPA noted that "It is a tremendous honor for IWPA to have Mr. Emerson speak at our Annual Conference. To have someone address us who has participated at the highest levels of Federal politics, the private sector and international trade will undoubtedly be a highlight of our three days in Vancouver. Having been an architect of the Canada-US Softwood Lumber Agreement gives Mr. Emerson a unique perspective on international trade and diplomacy.”

Mr. Emerson will be speaking to over 200 delegates representing 19 countries as part of the International Wood Products Association's 57th Annual convention.
