West Fraser named a Top Employer of Young People

West Fraser has now won Canada’s Top Employers of Young People award five times.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – West Fraser, a manufacturer of lumber and engineered wood panels, was honored as one of Canada’s Top Employers of Young People for 2021. It’s the fifth time the company has won the award.

The award recognizes West Fraser promote from within culture and for empowering young employees to challenge themselves and helping them build their careers. Examples include:

  • West Fraser’s partnership with the Quesnel campus of the College of New Caledonia to offer millwright training;
  • West Fraser’s participation in the development of the Sawfiling apprenticeship program at the Thompson River University campus in Williams Lake; and
  • West Fraser’s New and Young Worker Program, which provides extensive training to employees under the age of 25. The program includes orientation, job-shadowing and dedicated training with a supervisor and the mill's safety resource;
  • West Fraser’s policy to grant an employee three weeks of paid vacation after their first year on the job.

Now in its 19th year, the Young People Award is presented as part of MediaCorp’s Top 100 Employers in Canada. West Fraser also received the Canada’s Top 100 award for the eighth time this year.

West Fraser recently finalized its C$4 billion acquisition of Norbord.
