Uniboard’s MDF receives USDA Certified Biopreferred product certification

LAVAL, Q.C. — Uniboard Canada has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label for Uniboard Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), as well as its Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL) and Particleboard.

The company said this is the first North American manufacturer of decorative surfaces to obtain this certification.

Uniboard said it's certified products contain a high percentage of renewable, biobased materials, contributing to a more sustainable industry while maintaining the superior performance that designers, manufacturers, and distributors expect.

  • 100% USDA Certified Biobased: MDF and TFL
  • 95% USDA Certified Biobased: Particleboard

The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label provides third-party verification of a product’s renewable content, ensuring greater transparency and trust in the marketplace. With this certification, Uniboard reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and responsible manufacturing—without compromising durability or design flexibility.

"At Uniboard, we believe that sustainability and innovation go hand in hand," said Don Raymond, VP of sales and marketing at Uniboard. "Earning the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label is an important milestone in our journey towards a greener future. Our customers can be confident that they are choosing high-performance materials that not only meet their needs but also contribute to reducing environmental impact."

The Uniboard Medium Density Fiberboard and other certified products can now display a unique USDA label that highlights their percentage of biobased content. Third-party verification for a product's biobased content is administered through the USDA BioPreferred Program, which strives to increase the development, purchase, and use of biobased products.

Biobased products help address climate change by:

  • Offering renewable alternatives to petroleum-based products
  • Sequestering carbon dioxide, reducing greenhouse gases
  • Creating and expanding sustainable markets
  • Representing innovative technological advances in materials science

By choosing Uniboard’s BioPreferred Certified MDF, TFL and Particleboard, customers are not only selecting industry-leading engineered wood solutions but also supporting a thriving bioeconomy that promotes sustainability.
