Fast Facts: U.S. forestry industry

In 2017, an estimated 937,500 people were employed in the U.S. forest products industry, according to research by Statista. Of that, 428,500 were in the wood products sector, 373,400 in pulp and paper, and 135,600 in forestry and logging.

The USDA report, U.S. Forest Resource Facts and Historical Trends (2014) notes domestic timber inventory is only 10% of the world’s total, and 96% of  U.S. consumption comes from domestic supplies.
