CLEVELAND, OH - A recent report from The Freedonia Group found that demand for decorative laminates in the United States is projected to increase 4.1 percent annually to 11.9 billion square feet in 2018. The increase is a continuation of the advancements between 2001 and 2013 after the downturn from 2007 to 2010.
Cabinets and furniture were the two largest markets in 2013, accounting for 26 percent and 23 percent of total laminates demand, respectively.
Freedonia said decorative laminates grow will be pushed by renewed economic development, rebounding construction activity, greater credit availability, more interest in home improvements and demands for nonresidential upgrades.
“Competition from other materials continues to increase based on price, design trends, and greater awareness of the benefits of these alternatives,” said Freedonia Analyst Pamela Safarek.
To succeed, laminate producers will need to continue to introduce improved textures and enhanced graphics that rival the aesthetics of solid wood and natural stone at a cost savings,
