How to make the most of your millennial worker
By Bobby Lewis

Your people are your most important asset. We hear it all the time. We buy them pizza. We install ping pong tables, give them paid breaks, Christmas Bonuses, and ask how they’re doing. But most of the time they leave us anyway, don’t care enough, or don’t know enough.  This has never been truer than in the case of the Millennial Woodworker.

What if I told you as a second generation cabinet shop owner, that your Millennial employees could out-learn, out-perform, and out-class all the rest?  I’ll show you what we as employers have been doing wrong all along, and what to do to make it right so that you have a workforce that will forge a company that profits.

I’ve taken a lifetime of woodworking know-how at Lewis Cabinets, coupled it with years of research and military training, and added my take on it all to create a powerful workforce that outperforms every one of the competitors.  And yes, they are almost exclusively Millennials.  Old-school principles meet a new generation of thinking in our company, Perspective Approach.

All of this will be delivered into a 50 minute session with the Lean Management Track on April 11th at Cabinets & Closets 2017.  The lecture is broken into six sections:

  1.  The Current Situation Facing Employers - Specifically turnover, engagement, and succession planning
  2.  Defining the Problem
  3.  Identifying what Employers Want
  4.  Identifying what Employees Want
  5.  The Solution
  6.  Proven results

I will be teaming up with the Center for Lean Learning’s Brad Cairns on a brand new conference track emphasizing the human resource quotient of Lean Management operations.  Brad, who also operates cabinetry firm Signature Wood System, and I will show through our sessions how Lean Management can improve employee engagement and productivity – reducing remakes and errors in fulfillment, delivery, and installation of projects. Our day-long track will include a peer-to-peer lunch, tickets to a plant tour at Inter Ocean Cabinet Company, and networking reception afterward.  I look forward to seeing you there! www.cabinetsandclosetsexpo.com
