Oncken designed the kitchenette unit and helped the home owner install the Snap-on metal cabinets.

Contrasts make this cheery, 30-foot by 40-foot garage pop – from the yellow metal cabinets to the dark wood cabinets of the kitchenette.

Quincey Oncken of San Antonio, TX-based Oncken & Sons, a three-generation cabinet shop, says they built this project for a family friend.

“Basically we did a kitchenette area in his garage and we used the Decore-ative Specialties’ Streamline European boxes,” he says, to give it a modern touch.

The cabinet interiors are UV pre-finished birch with pre-finished edgebanding. All of the doors are high-gloss wenge with matching grains.

“We were trying to get a modern look in there and still make it seem like it fit in the garage and make it look nice and presentable,” he adds.

Although Oncken mainly focused on the kitchenette area, the company also helped install the Snap-on metal cabinets, a mechanic’s mainstay.

Other features of this high-end garage include the kitchenette countertop, which is Formica and mimics the yellow Snap-on cabinets, the shelving and plastic bins, the flooring and mats and the cabinet toe kick, which is diamond plated as well as sections of the wall. The full-service refrigerator and microwave complete the functionality of this kitchenette.

Although his company’s main focus was the kitchen-style cabinets, “We go out of our way to ensure every project detail is right,” Oncken says.
