The digital revolution has not only made technology more accessible and affordable, it has also enabled designers, through digital printing, to personalize everything from cabinets to doors, wall panels and furniture, adding custom touches that haven’t been seen at this level before.

An advantage of digital printing is that it is cost effective without sacrificing a luxurious, high-end look.

Although these capabilities have been around for some time, as technology advances and customers opt for modern designs, the ability to offer one-off customization has leapt to the next plane with decorative surface manufacturers launching new digital print laminates and services.

Schattdecor debuted its Digital Visions website earlier this year. It was timed to coincide with interzum 2013, where it showcased over 120 digital-print decors.

Formica, one of the first innovators of laminate, recently introduced a new line – Envision, a laminate that is customized for digital printing and for use in applications from wall panels to doors and countertops.

Wilsonart, which has been offering digital printing for laminates for a while, has a Custom Laminate Services division allowing for individualized one-of-a-kind digital print surfaces.

Another company offering digital print laminates is Abet Laminati, which also has developed a pre-designed collection with designer Karim Rashid.
