THOMSASVILLE, N.C. — Case goods and upholstered furniture manufacturer Whitewood Industries has expanded its operations again with the acquisition of another warehouse in Thomasville, North Carolina, just one mile from their main headquarters.
The 78,000-sq.ft. facility, formally owned by Heritage Home Group (successor to Furniture Brands International), brings the company’s total operational footprint to 578,000 sq. ft. Whitewood Industries employs 250.
This marks the second expansion for the Thomasville-based company in only one year and is part of the company’s long-term plan to satisfy customer demand with strengthened inventory levels and improved ship times.
Jorge Mata, Whitewood Industries CEO, explained that the expansion was an ideal move for the company as it was already exploring building additional warehousing when the opportunity for the new building presented itself. The property is large enough for the company’s current warehousing needs and provides enough property for the company to expand as needed.
“We are very excited about this acquisition. The Thomasville location is ideal, the facility gives us room to grow, and it will allow us to offer improved service to our customers,” said Mata.
The company has already begun to operate out of the newly acquired facility and anticipates adding up to 40 more employees.
Founded in 1982 as a distributor of ready-to-finish furniture to retail stores throughout the eastern United States, Whitewood Inds. has evolved into a leading supplier of finished and unfinished furniture sold through leading retailers nationwide as well as designing and manufacturing for the hospitality and contract furniture industry.
Its four divisions include: Whitewood Ready-To-Finish (unfinished furniture), John Thomas Furniture (casual dining and custom finish programs), International Concepts (a supplier to specialty retailers) and Custom Contract Furnishings (designer/manufacturer contract upholstery).
