BASSETT, VA -- Bassett Furniture announced plans to open a new 86,000-square-foot residential furniture manufacturing plant in Grand Prairie, Texas, in 2016. Part of the new facility, which will be located in Wildlife Park, will function as the home delivery hub for Zenith Global Logistics. Bassett acquired 100 percent ownership of the company earlier this year.

The growing economy along with a strengthening real estate market has lead to an expansion trend in the industry with a number of large furniture makers announcing plant openings and major investment plans. Bassett says its new plant, which will open in February of 2016 will create 70-plus jobs within the next 20 months.

Best Home Furnishings Kicks Off $3.1 Million Expansion

Upholstered furniture maker Best Home Furnishings has broken ground for a $3.1 million expansion at its Ferdinand, IN-based facility. Targeted for completion in August 2016, the 100,000-square-foot expansion will boost the size of the furniture supplier’s overall facilities to 1.2 million square feet.

"This new facility will provide both a timely capacity increase and a localized manufacturing presence that allows us to provide the best possible service experience for our Bassett Home Furnishings stores as well as other key independent retailers in the region," said Robert H. Spilman Jr., president and CEO of Bassett Furniture.

In the past two years, Bassett has made significant investments in its domestic manufacturing facilities. Last year, the company opened a new wood facility in its hometown of Bassett, VA., to produce Bench*Made, a selection of American handmade dining furniture. The company also expanded its table plant in Martinsville, VA., while making capital improvements to its manufacturing complex in Newton, N.C.

Bassett Furniture manufactures and markets high-end, mid-priced home furniture, and has 92 company- and licensee-owned stores nationwide.
