ESSEN, Germany. - The Red Dot Award: Product Design has invited designers and manufacturers from all over the world to submit their products with a registration period that breaks down into three different phases. The early bird registration will run from Oct. 9 to Nov. 28 2017, regular registration from Nov. 29 2017 to Jan. 16 2018, and latecomer registration from Jan. 17 to Feb. 9 2018.

Also featured is Young Professionals Application Day (Dec. 6 2017) where aspiring designers who have graduated within the past five years have the chance to apply for one of 50 free places in the event which allows them to prove their skills and put themselves on a par with established designers and major brands.

With 48 categories to put the design quality of any product to the test, the competition is open to all from global brands and established designers to up-and-coming designers and small- and medium-sized businesses.

Each product is assessed on a standalone basis with an evaluation process that spans over several days by design experts from all over the globe. The decisive criteria within the evaluation process include level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, and longevity. Awards available include an honourable mention, the Red Dot, and the Red Dot: Best of the Best.

Winning a Red Dot award can garner a great deal of attention for any product as the Red Dot label ensures that a brand is associated with outstanding design quality. Award winners also enjoy publication in the yearbook, in the online presentation, in the Red Dot Design App, and in the exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum.

The Red Dot Gala will be held in Essen’s Aalto Theater on July 9 2018 where the official award ceremony will take place.
