College to Host Woodworking Open House Cabinet and furniture making demonstration and more WHAT: The Cerritos College Woodworking Manufacturing Technology program is hosting a Woodworking Open House at its new CNC (computer numerical control) lab on January 8, 2016. At the open house, the new CNC lab’s state-of-the-art equipment and a 24-seat computer lab will be unveiled. Nested cabinet, furniture, and entry door production will be demonstrated. Representatives from woodworking machinery manufacturers AlphaCAM, Cabinet Vision, SCM Group, Blum, Velox, and Better Vacuum Cups will be on hand. Presentations about the new CNC Woodworking certificate and software classes include: 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. - CNC Woodworking Certificate 11 a.m., 3 p.m. - CNC Woodworking with AlphaCAM 1 p.m., 4 p.m. - CNC Woodworking with CabinetVision The Woodworking program recently partnered with SCM Group, a leading manufacturer of woodworking machinery. SCM Group’s new West Coast facility in Carson has provided the College’s woodworking with CNC (computer numerical control) equipment worth approximately $250,000 on consignment. “Through this partnership, our students can acquire skills and knowledge needed to operate CNC machines, which leads to employment,” said Carl Stammerjohn, chair of Woodworking Manufacturing Technology. The program offers training for local manufacturers as the only CNC woodworking training facility available in the Los Angeles area.
